Yes, on this page you'll find a little bit of information about the 1981 Walt Disney Productions family film starring Michael Crawford (Some Mothers Do 'Ave 'Em, Phantom of the Opera), Barbara Carrera (Island of Dr. Moreau), Oliver Reed (Gladiator) and James Hampton (Teenwolf, Teenwolf Too). A critical and box-office failure upon it's theatrical release in the early 1980's, the film since has developed into something of a "cult classic".
"Woody Wilkins (Michael Crawford), an inventive comic book writer, turns into a bumbling spy and is catapulted on a jet-setting trip around the world as Condorman, the comic book hero he created. The problems - and the hilarity - start when Woody falls in love with a Russian agent, Natalia (Barbara Carrera) and sets about helping her defect to the United States. However, Natalia's old flame, KGB agent Krokov (Oliver Reed), isn't about to let his prize get away. Krokov has every one of his agents on the run trying to prevent "Condorman" from aiding Natalia's escape. Crazy disguises, high-tech gadgets and hair-raising fun abound in this light-hearted comic adventure".
Condorman on DVD..The USA DVD release is also currently Out Of Print sadly... The UK Pal Region 2 DVD edition is still in print and available here!
Condorman on Video..
Condorman on Laserdisc..As far as I know, there was never a Laserdisc release of this film.
Soundtrack Album..Sadly, a soundtrack release for "Condorman" was never produced. This was unusual for a Disney film, especially when you consider that the composer was none other than Henry Mancini. If the music is ever officially released, you can be sure that it will be detailed on this page. Incidentally, Mancini's later score for the Disney animation "Basil The Great Mouse Detective" *did* get a soundtrack release and is sometimes available on amazon (have a look). On a brighter note, there are other Mancini releases available on compact disc. For a complete list of those for sale at amazon.co.uk please click here. |
Check out this fantastic scan of the original UK Quad Poster Art! "Condorman" (1981) Condorman was released in UK cinemas on the 2nd of July, 1981. Fans in the United States had to wait until the 7th of August of the same year. The earlier UK release date was most likely due to Michael Crawford's high profile in the UK (whereas he was an almost complete unknown at the time in the US..).
This is the fantastic 3D "falling" logo, which featured in the opening pre-credits sequence. This (at-the-time) complex introduction combined animation, 3D models (the metallic golden logo) and live action. Impressive. List all "Condorman" collectables on amazon.com
